I like a Zen look, but I had nothing on the walls! I’ve never felt confident about decorating my home. I thought the only way I’d ever be satisfied was if I went out and bought all new furniture and accessories, which I can’t afford. I’ve always wanted my house to look “put together”, to have a thoughtful, finished look, but I didn’t know how to accomplish it on my own. I felt paralyzed.

Working with Susan was affordable, easy, fun, and inspirational. She not only made suggestions, but she explained the thinking behind her suggestions. I learned a great deal about how to put colors together, something I’ve always struggled with.

Now I feel much more confident about continuing the work we began together and choosing accessories. I discovered I’m not as inept at decorating as I’ve always made myself out to be. I just needed someone else’s perspective and expertise to help me learn how to put things together in new and different ways.

I loved that Susan involved the whole family in the redecorating process. She helped us learn more about our tastes—the colors we like around us, what we felt worked well in the house and what didn’t. We made decisions together and each of us had a role in accomplishing tasks.

Susan came into my home and together we discovered treasures I never knew I had! I had a hooked rug given to me by a Great Aunt. I loved the rug, but I didn’t know how to incorporate it into the décor in my home, so I’d stored it in my linen closet for years. Susan immediately suggested hanging it over the mantel and it became the focal point for the living room. Even though the rug is a piece of Americana, its strong graphic and deep red color work extremely well with the Asian influences in the room.

The bedroom was redone completely by using as inspiration three pieces of Haywood-Wakefield furniture we already owned. The room is now serene, but also warm and inviting.

We made other changes as well—small changes that had a big impact. We lightened my son’s room considerably, and added color to the entryway to the house. The bright colors make me smile when I walk in the door.

Now I don’t have to travel to find the sanctuary I was seeking, I can just go home. That “stuck” feeling I was carrying around has lifted and I’m ready to make other changes in my life as well.
